Vision and Goals for PBL in Richland Two


Vision:
In partnership with our community, Richland School District Two will create a culture through Project Based Learning that promotes the skills of critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration, communication, and creativity by providing meaningful, challenging, and relevant learning experiences for all students. Through PBL, these authentic learning experiences will ensure college and career readiness while promoting the joy of learning.

Goals:
Richland Two has identified four priorities: 1) Learning 2) Community 3) Culture, and 4) Joy. Each of these priorities, in addition to the mission and beliefs of Richland Two, is reflected in the following goals for PBL implementation.

Goal 1: Improve the quality of student learning
  • Indicator A: Students will engage in authentic, real world learning experiences.
  • Indicator B: Students will use critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration, communication, and creativity to connect and apply their learning to real world experiences.
  • Indicator C: Teachers will design and implement PBL that promotes student voice and choice as well as the joy of learning.
  • Indicator D: District and school leaders will provide structures and time to support teachers planning PBL.
  • Indicator E: Students, staff, parents, and community members will value and celebrate learning through participating in exhibitions and partnerships.
Goal 2: Create a community culture that supports Project Based Learning.
  • Indicator A: Professional learning and reflection opportunities will be provided to teachers to develop high levels of trust and motivation among them.
  • Indicator B: District and school leaders will communicate the essential elements of PBL to teachers, students, parents, and community members.
  • Indicator C: Teachers will translate core competencies into authentic learning experiences that allow for student voice and choice.
  • Indicator D: Students and teachers will participate in presentations and exhibitions to showcase their work to the community.
  • Indicator E: A common understanding and definition of PBL will be used and understood by students, staff, and community.
  • Indicator F: Cultural norms will be developed to ensure a common understanding of PBL across schools and the community.
  • Indicator G: Teachers will create meaningful opportunities for engaging interactions between schools and the community.

Goal 3: Develop graduates who are college and career ready and possess the skills to be contributing members of the community.
  • Indicator A: District and school leaders will establish core values for 21st century citizenship.
  • Indicator B: District and school leaders will create a profile of a college and career ready student.
  • Indicator C: District and school staff will seek and strengthen community and university partnerships in which students participate in apprenticeships, internships, externships, and job shadowing.
  • Indicator D: Students will have real world experiences through meaningful and authentic interactions with the community.
Indicator E: Students will find their passion, interests, strengths, and joy in learning through a variety of authentic learning experiences involving the community and local university partnerships.
